Destriero
Destriero broke the speed record across the Atlantic in 1992 at an average speed of 53.09 knots. It was designed by Thierry Verhaaren, head of the Naval Architecture department in CMN at the time, under the code name Bravo Romeo (for Blue Riband). For commercial reasons, it was then built in Fincantieri with no changes allowed that could affect its hydrodynamic performance. Destriero is the forerunner of “Fast ferries”, whose first units were built in Fincantieri.
